WHAT IS CHABAD?

Chabad is a worldwide movement that spreads Jewish awareness to all Jews whether male or female, old or young. Its roots are in White Russia in a small town by the name of Lubavitch. The word Chabad is an acronym for Chachmah, Binah, Daas, which means wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. The idea is to turn intellect to action. Simply put, Chabad's message is "don't just think it, do it". This is exactly what Chabad does. Chabad Houses can be found in every part of the world such as, Tasmania, Vietnam, Hawaii, and Bangkok and in each one of those places Chabad is doing everything it can to help Jews be Jewish.

WHAT DOES CHABAD DO IN THE AMAZON?

Chabad provides Jewish people with all their religious needs founded on the three spiritual pillars: Torah, Avodah (service), and Gemuilut Hachasidim (kindness). Torah- We have several weekly classes and one on one studies that will uplift your day. All answers and guidance on Judaism are provided. Avoda (service) – All means of connecting to G‑d are offered, be it through prayer or a positive deed. Chabad facilitates this need as services are provided throughout the Amazon region. Gemuilat Chassidim (Kindness) – Chabad provides material and spiritual help to those in need.

DO ONLY RELIGIOUS PEOPLE COME TO CHABAD?

Chabad is inclusive and non-judgmental, and our programs are open to all Jews. In fact, the majority of people who participate in programs at Chabad are not Orthodox. The teachings of Chabad are imbued with the renowned Chassidic spirit and joy, but in no way is the commitment to an Orthodox lifestyle a prerequisite to one's acceptance at Chabad functions.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF CHABAD?

Chabad is an educational organization dedicated to helping every Jew, regardless of background, affiliation, or personal level of observance, to increase their level of Jewish knowledge, enthusiasm, and commitment. Each individual is invited to participate, study, and learn. Each individual makes his or her own respective religious lifestyle decisions at his or her own pace. Each mitzvah stands on its own as an important step in one’s personal growth.

DOES CHABAD CONSIDER NON-PRACTICING JEWS AS "REAL" JEWS?

Certainly. A Jew is a Jew is a Jew – period. Jewish Law has traditionally considered anyone born of a Jewish mother or converted in accordance with Halacha to be a Jew, regardless of his or her degree of observance.

DOES CHABAD SUPPORT ISRAEL?

Chabad is deeply involved in defending Israel and its right to exist, throughout all its boundaries. Many Chabadniks serve in the IDF and others contribute practical and spiritual support to the troops. Chabad has over 200 centers in Israel, as well as dozens of educational facilities around the country. Lubavitch trained Rabbis often complete their training is Israeli yeshivot.

IS THE CHABAD HOUSE FINANCED BY ITS HEADQUARTERS IN NEW YORK OR SAO PAULO?

There is minimal support that is provided from the headquarters, as it is Chabad policy that each center be supported by the community it serves. No money is sent to international Chabad headquarters in New York. All funds donated remain right here in our community.
